The former porter’s house of De Ateliers is situated in a national monument building complex from 1875 designed by city architect Bastiaan de Greef. A conservatory was added in the 1950s to the initial property, according to a design by Gerrit Rietveld. The original porter’s lodge is a freshly renovated, well-laid-out three-storey house of 200 m2, with a canal view, located on Stadhouderskade 86, nearby the green and bustling Sarphatipark and within walking distance to the Rijksmuseum, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Van Gogh Museum. The independent entrance to the property can be reached by way of its very own streetside gate and protected alleyway, which opens onto a shared garden. The well-isolated common garden of the family-friendly neighbourhood offers a bike shed on site for safe parking in addition to indoor storage space. An authentically preserved spiral staircase inside the building leads up to different levels of the spacious house, which owes its abundance of light to large windows, high ceilings, and smart layout. The space is extremely versatile, suitable for living, working, research, and studio practices. The neighbouring community of artists is an important part of the full Woonhuis experience (participation in communal activities is encouraged). To enhance Woonhuis, the above-mentioned community of artists contributed works to be displayed during open-house viewing sessions collectively titled “Don’t Look a Gift Horse in the Mouth”.
**Please keep in mind that the space comes semi-furnished with all the practical amenities, excluding the artworks displayed.
Open house viewings are from 1–11 June, Thursday to Sunday, between 1 and 6 pm.
